People
At Nobody’s Child everybody counts. We’re passionate about creating an inclusive workplace culture and recognise that people are at the heart of everything we do.
Doing a world of good for people and the planet is what we truly believe in. Because while we’re on a journey, we feel positive about the change we can make along the way.
Company culture
We’re committed to creating an inclusive, vibrant and empowered workforce that’s equipped to navigate and thrive with the growth trajectory of the brand. By investing in the employee experience, fostering collaboration and providing growth opportunities, we’ve built a resilient organisation that knows the true strength and importance of its people. It’s a journey – and our team are brought along for the ride.
Our people-first approach is underpinned by the key pillars of our culture: wellbeing, a growth mindset, recognition, engagement and connection. From our Camden head office to our London boutiques, we’re proud of the values led culture we’ve created at Nobody’s Child. Our team live and breathe our core values, no matter what their role is.
Company values:
Be brave
Be kind
Be agile
Be optimistic
Ensuring our team’s wellbeing is a priority is key to our people strategy. In addition to providing employees with dedicated wellbeing days and wellbeing breaks during work hours, we’ve made an impactful partnership with the Retail Trust. This collaboration ensures that all our employees feel supported, empowering them to take control of their own wellbeing with access to counselling, virtual GPs, crisis support, work engagement tools and so much more.
Labour standards and Code of Conduct
We prioritise safe and fairly paid work for everyone who works for and with Nobody’s Child be that in
our head office, our stores, our warehouses or our supply chains. Our teams have regular site visits and video calls to maintain an open and face-to-face communication channel with our partners. Our Supplier Handbook is in place to ensure our supply chain partners have access to a centralised document that outlines our latest policies, procedures across labour and workplace management, environmental protection, and preferred materials.
Our Code of Conduct is based
on the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Conventions and the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) base code. It is in place to ensure the companies we purchase goods and services from at minimum:
Operate lawfully;
Don't exploit the people who work for them;
Provide safe and fair working conditions;
Don't damage the environment
As part of our supplier assessment procedure, we insist on independent annual auditing of our suppliers’ factories. The audits include confidential interviews with workers, wide-ranging document checks including employee contracts, wages, hours and thorough health and safety inspections. Any non-compliances found are given specific timescales in which to complete them by. Once the non-compliances are rectified they will be approved by a document review or additional follow-up audits.
Gender equality & women’s empowerment
Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a sustainable world. We’re signed up to the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) to promote gender equality in the workplace, marketplace and community. Established by the UN Global Compact and UN Women, the WEPs are aligned with international labour and human rights standards and are grounded in the recognition that businesses have a part to play in the progression of gender equality.
We’re also partnered with Smartworks, a UK charity that exists to give women the confidence they need to reach their full potential, secure employment and change the trajectory of their lives. Keep reading, there’s more on this later…
