The Lazy-Girl Guide to Styling your Slip Dress Season-to-Season

Ok, so we’re kicking ourselves we waited so long to bring the slip dress back. All the rage during the 90s, the style went AWOL for close to twenty years. Why? Well, that’s precisely our point. It seems none of us rightly know. Effortlessly cool, ridiculously versatile and championed by none other than Mossy herself, the trend tribe’s been tripping over itself to make amends. And it seems that this season, we may have finally been forgiven…

From trending pleat textures to petal-popping prints, super-silky satins to so-now frill details, the slip dress has not only returned for SS17, but completely taken over. And so today we’re sharing our slip dress style guide; three looks showing you EXACTLY how to take the hero piece from season-to-season… Cos’ twenty years is a helluva lot of time to make up for!

How to Style the Slip Dress in Winter

We can throw the term SS17 around ‘till we’re blue in the face, but let’s be honest; as far as Mother Nature’s concerned, it’s still very much winter, and she kinda’ get’s last say in the matter. But no problemo, cos the slip dress can totally do the whole colder weather thing, too, and here’s how…

Opt for a longer length – a midi or midaxi ought to do it – and team with ankle boots which meet the hemline. This way, we can slip a pair of leggings under and no-one will be the wiser! As for your upper half, layer the dress over a roll neck top; added warmth + full marks on the layering front! And then throw a longline duster jacket over-top. It’s all about trend-clashing right now, and you’ve only got to flick through a fash-rag to see how big a floral-meets-urban collabo is!

How to Style the Slip Dress in Spring

Somehow florals survived the annual cull this winter, adapting to the colder months with an all-new muted colour palette. But as spring approaches, rest-assured, it’s time to turn the saturation back to full. Enter our navy midi slip dress with its red, yellow and green petal-pattern print.

We’ve layered a white frill front t-shirt on top, to tone down the pattern day-to-day, and shrugged a stone wash denim jacket over that for a casj-cool finish. Sneaks add an urban-edge on the otherwise so-femme styling, while a nineties choker provides an eye-catching focal point.

How to Style the Slip Dress in Summer

Yes, summer seems an insanely long way off right now *casually watches a flake of snow drift pass the window*, but that’s the beauty of the slip dress; a few styling alteration here and there, and you can take it from season-to-season easy as. For our summer style edit, we’ve gone with a saffron shade of yellow, and toughened the look with biker-leather black. Platform sandals offer a modern spin during the warmer season, while shades aren’t only necessary, but have the power to make pretty much any outfit about a 1000x instantly cooler… though note to self; do remove them prior to tube travel. No buts.
