Miss Veganuary? 4 ways to kickstart your vegan lifestyle in Feb and beyond

Remember when a New Year’s Resolution was cutting out sugar, booze, or going to the gym a bit? Apparently, that wasn’t enough of a challenge, step forward Veganuary!

Going vegan is the single biggest way to reduce your environmental impact, far bigger than cutting down on flights or driving an electric car. Let’s be honest, we all want a bit of international travel, so going vegan for a month (or more) is the ideal way to offset.

Since the Veganuary movement started five years ago, sign-ups have more than doubled each year, with over 250,000 people in 193 countries participating this year. Veganuary’s gone mainstream, but if you’re a little late to the plant-based party, worry not… veganism’s open to all, all year round.


Here’s how to kickstart the new you…


1. Don’t go cold tofurky

The easiest way to increase plant-based foods in your diet is by making small changes. Start by removing meat or dairy one day a week, or try vegan breakfasts during week one, add a vegan lunch in week two and so on. You can also change one product at a time by substituting cow’s milk for almond or soya milk, or butter for coconut oil.


2. Hey pesto

Know anyone that doesn’t like pesto? No, neither do we, because they don’t exist! The combo of basil, garlic, olive oil and lemon is a winner if you’re entertaining non-vegans, even the most die-hard of meat eaters won’t even notice this gorge sauce it’s vegan!


3. Go the whole (food) way

It’s easy to buy pre-prepared vegan food, but if you want to see the real health benefits of veganism (improved hair, skin, nails, digestion, sleep (as if we needed any more reasons)) then try to eat as many whole foods as possible.


4. Don’t call me a snack, get me a snack

Don’t punish yourself, it isn’t a fad diet, it’s a way of life. You don’t need to deprive yourself or feel ravenous, remember there’s a tasty vegan alternative for almost everything and if you’re in doubt… there’s always vegan cake!
