Interview: 5 mins with Singer/Songwriter, Mali-Koa Hood
Last week, the Nobody’s Child team met up with our latest #girlcrush – singer/songwriter, Mali-Koa Hood – to shoot the capsule clothing collection for our new concession in Topshop (available in selected stores from today!!). But as well as singing and songwriting, Mali also dances, DJ’s, blogs, and apparently does a damn good impression of Destiny’s Child…yes, as in all three of them. At the same time. Though we’ve yet to hear it ourselves…
Mali styled herself on the day, and true to her colourful character, opted for some of our brighter summer pieces, including our kimono-inspired wrap dress, polka dot tie-front blouse, and halter-neck stripe dress…all of which are now available at Topshop!
She added her own spin to each outfit, in the form of doc martin boots, a black fedora hat and purple lensed sunglasses, to create an overall look which can only be described as the perfect fusion of sportsluxe and rock chick.
After the shoot, we headed for pizza and while waiting for the mozarella topped food-of-the-gods, discussed all things fashion, music and Mali… which reminds us; she also confesses to be a ‘professional at eating food’, and to that, we can testify!
Q&A with Mali-Koa
NC – So what’s happening at the moment? Give us the 411…
Mali – At the moment, I’m coming to a really exciting crossroad with my music. I’ve been happily locked away in the studio with some very talented writers and producers, feeling very excited about some new tunes at the ready!
NC – Off to any festivals this summer?
Mali – This year I’ll be rolling around at a few festivals (it’s my favourite time of year!) including Glastonbury, Wildlife, V and LoveBox…
NC – How would you describe your personal style?
Mali – Laid back, fun, comfortable, sexy (bit awks?)
NC – What trends are you loving this season?
Mali – I’m loving baseball caps, the return of the mule and birkenstock, tees under shifts, heavy statement jewellery, and wearing lingerie and corsets as outerwear.
NC – What’s your favourite piece from the current collection?
Mali – I love the yellow, ditsy print shorts and blouse two-piece, which I teamed with a cap and docs to give it an edge. I like hardening more femme looks.
Tile Front Ditsy Blouse – £15
NC – Give us three words use to describe Nobody’s Child?
Mali – comfortable, classic, basics
NC – What’s next for Mali-Koa?
Mali – I’m looking forward to some incredible new releases, exciting news, world travel, and more live music.
NC – So, what makes the perfect pizza?
Mali – My perfect pizza is a tomato base with rocket, goats cheese + prosciutto. Far cry from my Dad’s tastes, who thought the pizza we had on shoot was too fancy and begged me for a Ham and Pineapple!
