Grunge and Florals?! Yes, and THIS is how…
Ok, so spring’s sprung and just like that, everyone’s going mad for floral. From daisy-dotted jumpsuits to petal-patterned slip dresses, it’s like the goddamn Chelsea flower show out there. But what if blooms aren’t your bag? Granted, the ol’ botanical print can look a little grannified, kinda’ like this season’s ruffle shirt, though it totally comes down to how to wear them. Which is where we come in…
Two words; trend and clash. If you really want to nail SS17, it’s all about fusing two looks together, and the more opposing they seem, the more effective the impact… or at least, that’s the theory. And we for ones can think of two more contrasting looks than lo-fi 90s grunge and meadow-fresh spring florals. Look and learn, kids:
Graphic Rock Tee, Floral Maxi Skirts and Trainers
As you’ve no doubt gathered by now, more is definitely more right now. In fact, SS17’s pretty much ripped up the rule book altogether, cos let’s face it, this floral skirt and graphic rock tee pairing absolutely should not work. Turn back the clock twelve months, and you’d have a pretty hard time convincing the fash-police not to cuff you right then and there. And yet, it totally does. Tuck the tee in for an oh-so-flattering silhouette, and stick on sneaks to keep things casj.
Jumpsuit, Floral Crop Blouse and Mesh Socks
Thank god for the jumpsuit, right? Offering an all-in-one style solution, day or night, it’s the ultimate Monday morning godsend. But how to make it feel fresh for new season? Enter, our floral crop blouse. Simply slip it on over top, as a lightweight spring jacket. We’ve added mesh socks for a so-now touch, plus the pop of red totally brings out the boho-blossom pattern. And then its simply a case of calling on our old fried, the choker necklace.
Skinny Jeans, Floral Crop blouse and Leather Jacket
Not a bodycon dress kinda’ girl? Yeah, we didn’t think so… Instead, hit-up Saturday night in this grunge-floral collabo. Start with boots and a pair of ever-popular skinny black jeans. A pretty staple canvas for any look, but here comes the style-shift; a mustard yellow tie-back floral blouse. BOOM! It instantly elevates the look, while retaining that all-important sense of individuality. And then shrug a leather jacket over-shoulder for a retro-rock finale.
So while we very much doubt Alan Titchmarsh prunes his roses to the sound of Nirvana, that’s not to say floral and grunge weren’t made for each other! Let us know what you think of the style clash in the comments below… or better yet, show us your take on the trend over on Instagram using #NCrowd.
