Meet the Girls Who’re Gonna Own 2017
No matter how old Kate Moss gets, something tells us she’ll still be making headlines for years to come (£20 says zimmer frames are the it-item in 2043!). But that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for new blood every now and then. From your Gigis to your Caras, Karlies to your Kendalls, we’ve had it pretty darn good these last few years, though that’s nothing compared to what 2017 has in store. Introducing the new wave of cool-girls that’ll have you reaching for the follow button – stat!
Iris Law, Model
The daughter of Jude Law and Sadie Frost, last week Burberry (yes, Burberry) announced Iris Law as the face of their latest beauty campaign. Oh and FYI, she’s only sixteen. This arrives on the back of a stint with Miu-Miu last year – alongside Taylor Hill, no less – in addition to previous work with Chanel. So with three of the biggest fashion houses already ticked off her to-do list, there’s little chance Iris will be slowing down anytime soon.
Millie Bobby Brown, Actress
You probably know her as Eleven from Netflix smash-hit Stranger Things. If not, she’s the bald girl in a dress your mate went as for Halloween (you know, the one mate who didn’t go as Harley Quinn). Since airing, Millie’s not only earnt global stardom for her incredible acting chops, but has gained serious cred in the world of fashion for her amazing sense of style, links with Burberry and Louise Vuitton, and front-row appearance at NYFW. Not to mention, the ink’s still drying on her new massive deal with Calvin Klein, signed only this week!
Dakota, Girl Band
Based in Amsterdam, girl-group Dakota are quickly gaining recognition for their dreamy indie-pop sound. Couple this with inspired lyrics, relatable subject matters, and a casj-cool out-of-time image, and there’s no doubt about whether they deserve a spot on your 2017 radar. The girls’ debut album, Leda, was released last October, while their latest track, Automatic – a song exploring the feeling you get when a friend’s successful, and suddenly you doubt your own achievements – came out last week. Close your eyes, have a listen, and watch your worries float away…
Yara Shahidi and Rowan Blanchard, Teen Activists
BFFs first, teen activists second, Yara and Rowan are both emerging actors who have decided to use their newfound fame as a platform to make a difference in the world. Addressing issues of gender and equality through their social accounts, the dynamic duo have also given talks at UN Women and recently fronted the cover of Teen Vogue, in an issue that directly addressed the gender battle of the recent presidential election. Watch. This. Space.
Ellen Rosa, Model
At the age of fourteen, Ellen was scouted walking to school in her home town of Nova Serrana, Brazil. Three years on and she’s still walking, only now it’s down the catwalks of brands such as Chanel, Moschino and Versace. In fact, she walked no less than twenty-nine runways during the SS17 shows. And is it any wonder? From her soul-searching eyes to sky-scraping cheekbones, expect to see a whole lot more of Ellen.
