How to take your summer outfits from day to night, on the go!
On-the-go outfit changes can be tricky at the best of times, but while it’s one thing changing a top because you spilt coffee on it, it’s entirely another thing styling yourself from a casj-cool day look into something a little more glam for night. Arguably, this is easier in winter when it might simply be a case of slipping off a jumper in favour of the dress below, but in summer, when you’re outfits are, for want of a better word – skimpier – dressing-up shorts and a crop top into something evening-aprope needs a little more thought...
Going from day to night is even trickier on holiday. Sometimes it just doesn’t make sense (or IOW, you totally CANNOT be bothered) to make that trek back to the hotel room. Or perhaps limited luggage space means you need to recycle an item of clothing or two. This being the case, today we’re sharing two looks, which thanks to a few simple tips and tricks, can go from beach to bar in the blink of an eye. And no, you won’t have to lug a suitcase of accessories, or a tote bag of make-up to do it. This is fast fashion, on the go.
Day to Night Outfit 1
For outfit one, we’ve gone with a black bodysuit and fern print shorts combo. The neutral colour scheme is a great starting point as it’s easy to dress up or down, while the high-wasted fit and loosely pleated shape of the shorts gives them an almost skirt-like vibe.
For Day – If it’s a bit of a hike to the beach, or you’re game for a little seafront exploring, then opt for a trusty pair of black canvas sneakers. They immediately give a look an off-duty vibe and are a practical option on holiday, when you could be chillaxing by the pool one minute, and quad biking your way to a landmark the next. Throw on a floppy hat (another stylishly sensible addition), and of course, finish the look with a pair of sunglasses.
For Night – Remember, your wardrobe-transition needs to fit in a tote bag, so it’s all about those lightweight but impactful alterations. Heels immediately elevate an outfit (and don’t take up too much case-space). Plus, they change the way you move, so you’ll immediately feel more ‘going out’, too! As for accessories, a statement necklace looks great against the black of the bodysuit, and provides a glamorous outfit focal point.
Moving onto outerwear, this throw-in-the-bag kimono not only rolls up to practically nothing, but the tropical print matches the shorts for a top-to-toe statement. Now it’s simply a case of returning the floppy hat and sunnies to the tote, and adding a little eyeliner, mascara, and a slick of red lipstick to finish.
Day to Night Outfit 2
If you thought you had it easy with outfit 1, wait ‘til you get load of outfit 2. This time we’re starting with a pair of denim shorts and our Marcella print tie-front blouse (available from our Topshop concession). The midriff-baring combo not only screams holiday, but is a great way to tan-up while roaming the local town.
For Day – This Marcella floral pattern is eye-catching as it is, so keep accessories at a minimum; a black choker provides an on-trend touch, not to mention works well with the plunge v-neck, while sunnies are simply a vacay necessity. In terms of footwear, pop a pair of block heeled sandals on – comfortable enough for the day, glamourous enough for the night.
For Night – As day to night transitions go, this really is as simple as its gets. Slip the denim shorts off, and our Marcella Wrap Dress on. Its floaty shape means you’ll stay lovely and cool, while the matching pattern channels this season’s co-ord movement. Moving onto accessories, we’d suggest exchanging the choker neck for something a little daintier, such as a pendant necklace, and then it’s just a case of tying a half-pony into your hair for a bit of variation.
