3 Ways to Wear It: The Bomber Jacket
Every now and then, the fashion Gods reward us for all those times we’ve run for the last tube in heels, nearly caught hypothermia in a mini skirt, or have been forced to live off pasta for a month because we just had to buy that handbag. A few years ago they gave us trainers, and the walk to and from work has never been more comfortable – in fact, it looks like fashionistas are never giving them back! And now, in their infinite wisdom, the fashion gods have graced us with the Bomber Jacket.
Like the crop top, body suit and co-ord, the bomber jacket's another 90’s throwback and one of those incredibly versatile pieces that just seems to go with ANYTHING. It’s nice and lightweight for the summer months ahead, and works seamlessly with a variety of looks, whether it’s sports luxe, street chic or urban hip hop. So to help you get the most out of your bomber jacket this season, we’ve chosen our absolute fave three ways to wear it...
Look 1 - Bomber jacket with skinny jeans and trainers
One for day-to-day wear, throw your bomber jacket over a t-shirt and skinny jeans pairing for an instant style upgrade. Finish the look with crisp white trainers, and use pared-down accessories, such as simple hoop earrings or a beanie hat, to stay true to the leisure-luxe vibe.
In terms of pattern, avoid pitting your top against your jacket. For slogan and logo tees, stick with a block coloured top layer, while simpler tops can afford to be brought to life with statement pieces like our Floral Bomber Jacket.
Look 2 - Bomber jacket with a pleated skirt and boots
We’re loving this season’s pleated midi skirt. In fact, we love it so much that we’ve already shown you how to wear it three ways (which you can check out here) but it totally goes with your bomber jacket, too. Just throw an oversized sweat and chunky heeled boots into the mix and you’re good to go.
For bonus style points, use a pair of bold coloured socks to bridge the gap between the hem of the skirt and the cuff of the boot.
Look 3 - Bomber jacket with culottes and platforms
Contrasting shapes dominated the SS16 catwalks earlier this year, and the oversized silhouette of the bomber jacket lends itself perfectly to this trend. Stick with clean lines on your bottom half, such as a pair of culottes, to accentuate the top heavy look, and finish with heels or platform boots for some elegant elevation.
Nail that extra attention to detail by picking out an accent from the jacket and complimenting it with the colour of your footwear.
